Štrumfi / ştrumfi revisited

An extra twist to our Smurf lore:

Regardless of the little blue miscreants' origin with a Belgian artist, you'd think "Štrumfi" would be a Balkan adaptation of something German like "strumpf," right?

Bzzt.

I asked my German language teacher last week what Germans call them. The answer?

Die Schlümpfe.

Mind your umlauts. I'm still shaking my head over all this.

P.S. I finally got my Canon Powershot back from the Canon repair people. (I managed to crack the LCD monitor right before I left Montenegro...arg...). When I first sent it in, I got a speedy e-mail telling me that it was still under warranty, such that that particular repair would be free. Which is odd, because I have strong doubts that I remembered to send in any warranty registration. :-)

But I ain't complainin'. Canon just gave me great service despite my own risk-taking / stupidity. Woo hoo!

Two months of silence and all we get is a post about the Smurfs? Come on, Frank, you can do better than that.

Yeah - I been busy. :-P

I also just found chapter and verse two days ago about what I can post without submitting it to government review. I'm still parsing the language, and I need to do some more research to figure out what's permitted.

But the short answer is that a lot of my usual blogging interests to date fall under what could be considered "matters of official concern." If so - and blogs are explicitly included as writings in the agency manual / regs - I have to submit writing on those official concerns for review before I can publish them on the good ol' interwebs.

So I have to work hard to reorient the blog toward areas that don't require government review. And that's assuming I have the energy to blog after a long day of language cramming and often a nice exhausting dose of aikido class to top it off. ;-)

I'll figure out something. In the meantime, you get Smurfs. :-)

I'm glad you stopped by, though, and I'll work on getting more substantive stuff up, as ideas and time permit.

Heck, I got a lot of pics to sort through...
